At their latest game against Finn Harps, played at the Regional Sports Centre, Waterford FC proudly announced their Autism friendly match day experience. As Waterford FC increases its involvement with the locality to offer extra amenities and benefits for locals, they are launching a number of social projects.
The club, project volunteers, and families of youngsters with autism, who were eager to give their children the opportunity to frequently experience the Blues in action, worked together superbly to create this terrific venture. It is led by Colin Power, the new Head of Community for Waterford FC, who receives assistance from Healthy Ireland in his work.
To assist the seamless functioning of the scheme, Waterford FC has appointed dedicated volunteer Club Ambassadors, to assist the children and parents whenever they attend a game at the RSC. They are met and admitted by the club ambassadors at a chosen access point away from the rush and commotion of the front gates and are led to a designated place in the main stand where they are able to watch the game. Support can be requested to get refreshments or should any of the children need to take a break from the game, a dedicated quiet area is offered where parents can accompany them.
