Tramore will face Southend in the Ardagh Premier Cup Final on Saturday, May 20th.
Penalties were needed to separate the Ferrybank and Southend last night, with 2 goals each on the score sheet at the end of regular time.
MJ Sutton and Sean Flynn sent the home side into a two-nil lead by the 58th minute, but a fightback from Southend's Bami Oriala and Shane O Sullivan made it a level game with five minutes of regular time to go.
A shootout was the last method of resolution, with Southend prevailing 4-3 from the spot kicks.
They will meet a Tramore team who brought an end to Villa's run in the cup, winning 2-1 against the league champions at Graun Park on Wednesday.
The final proposes a unique situation for Southend. They will line out for the final knowing that it will be their last game at the Premier level of at least 12 months. Relegated from the top division of the league, they will be playing 1A next year.
A cup win would not reward them with a place in the Premier Cup for next year either.
The history books tell the tale that no relegated team has ever won the cup, so while they will have to accept their relegation, Southend have the chance to make a little bit of history before they head down for next season.
