Six shots off the pace in his first outing of 2022, Seamus Power is 2 under at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

His first round in Hawaii got off to the start he would have hoped for with a birdie on the par-four first hole.

Coming into the tournament ranked 73rd in the world, 2022 offers a new landscape to the West Waterford golfer who was outside the top 400 this time last year.

This is a first competitive outing in as many as seven weeks for Seamus who last teed it up at the RSM Classic where he claimed a top-four spot.

Another birdie on the fifth had him set up nicely looking at the run to the turn, but a double bogey on the eighth saw him hand back his previous below-par scores.

The good work resumed after the turn with another birdie on the 384yds par 4, and while he did drop one shot further on the 12th, he managed to follow it up with back-to-back-to-back birdies on the 14th through to 16.

Unfortunately, what had been a hugely positive run down the home straight was muted somewhat when he handed one back on the 18th.

His opening 18 holes leave him tied four ways in 25th with Si Woo Kim, Phil Mickelson, and Jordan Speith and six shots off the pace of Aussie Cameron Smith; while his playing partner Erik Van Rooyen is just two shots off Smith after his opening round.
