Speaking on Monday evening's "On The Ball" programme, Waterford native Niamh Briggs says it was a massive statement of intent from Ireland; "It was incredible, when you look at it objectively and take the emotion out of it it was just a brilliant performance, and to be able to go over to New Zealand and really dominate them for two games two weeks in a row, backing that up, short term it's huge but long term I think going into the World Cup next year it gives that squad a huge amount of confidence".
With the World Cup not too far away, Briggs says the competition for places will be massive which can only be of huge benefit going into the 2023 tournament; "That competition that's within the squad now, it'll just drive them all to get better and better. I think back in 2019 the World Cup squad pretty much picked itself bar one or two players, I think Ireland are in a position now where the strength and depth that they have throughout the country is one of the best in the world".
