2022 beckons for Seamus Power who has his opener for the calendar year in Hawaii later this evening.

The Tooranena native enters the Tournament ranked 73rd in the world - a vast improvement on this time last year when he was outside the top 300.

His most recent outing resulted in a fourth-place finish at the RSM Classic where he finished up 7 shots off the eventual winner Talor Gooch.

Power will be hoping to pick up where he left off before Christmas, with his best year of pro golf to date. He earned five top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour between April and December, one of those top 10's being his first-ever win on the Tour when he claimed the Barabaol Championship in Kentucky.

Speaking to the "Fit for Golf" podcast before New Year, Power has hailed the presence of Simon Keelan on the bag. The Cork native made the switch from the LPGA Tour to the PGA in 2019 and Seamus says that it's been great to have someone from home out on the course with him, "I really enjoyed the week being able to talk about stuff from back home like soccer and rugby”.

This will be his first year on the PGA Tour where he is guaranteed his start going into each week, thanks to his win in Kentucky last July.

While this is a "no-cut" event, it's not without opportunity as a third-place finish in the star-studded field would see him crack the world's top 50. The West Waterford man will be in illustrious company; of the world's top 30 players, 21 are in action at the Kapalua Resort and only two of the top 10 are missing - Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.

Seamus tee's off this evening at twenty past eight Irish time in the company of South African Erik Van Rooyen.
