Five-time All Star John Mullane wants Waterford to come out fighting in Sunday's must-win Munster championship game with Limerick at Walsh Park. He feels that they have been outworked in their two games to date.
"I'm not coming in here, being a past player, and trying to put the dagger into the players. I'm not. What I'm saying is I'm talking to some genuine supporters out there and there's a couple of players that could be giving more. They have to bring more to the table on Sunday. I think the supporters deserve that. For the simple reason, a lot of supporters are going the length and breadth of the country and paying good money and all they want is something back. I hope and I'd like to think that there's enough leaders and enough very good players in that dressing room that they can come out fighting and give a good level of performance that the supporters deserve."
Work ethic is the starting point for the De La Salle man. Waterford must front up to the All Ireland champions around the middle third in his view. "I'm fed up, in the last week or two, of hearing that the players should be playing this system or that system, they were doing this under Derek and that under Derek. It's a load of s*** if you ask me. At the end of the day, you can play whatever system you want and go out with whatever tactics you want. The main thing you have to do, going back to the old values, is win as much ball as the man you're on. Collectively, as a group, if eleven or twelve lads can achieve that, win more ball and outwork the opposition, nine times out of ten you will win the match. Limerick are going to come out with some manic aggression and a lot of physicality; Waterford have got to be ready, go toe to toe and match them."
