Abbeyside boss Peter Queally says that the summertime causes problems for club players given the uncertainty over fixtures.

"For some players with families, trying to plan holidays is next to impossible. You're talking about children's holidays here where there' s a break from school in June and July. And this is nothing to do with the county board, they can only work around the inter county championship. There's a provisional fixture on June 23. That fixture will totally depend on Waterford, whether they qualify or not. If they qualify, it doesn't go ahead. If they don't qualify, it does go ahead. You're in a bit of a bind there until that fourth round of the Munster championship on June 12. You don't know until then whether you'll be playing in the middle of summer or not. That's something for Croke Park to look at. There might be a more definite calendar rather than a provisional one. I presume all counties are in the same boat."

Ahead of Saturday's SHC opener against Fourmilewater, he was glad to see Conor Prunty back on the field with Waterford last weekend after suffering a quad injury earlier in the league campaign. "It was a big boost. We had written him off. He thought himself that he wouldn't be back until mid April. He did everything over and above what was asked of him to get back."
