The GAA president, Larry McCarthy, has named the players who would comprise the international wheelchair hurling squad, which includes a Waterford native.

Alex Hennebry of Waterford has been selected to play for Ireland at the 2023 Prague Wheel Open Floorball International, which will be held from August 10th to 12th. Hennebry will be joined by 11 other wheelchair all-star hurlers from each of the four provinces.

Damhan Hughes (Tyrone), Shane Curran (Galway), Maurice Noonan (Limerick), Sean Bennett (Laois), Ciaran Bradley (Down), Paul Hannon (Armagh), Alex Hennebry (Waterford), Cian Horgan (Kerry), Aidan Hynes (Sligo) and Ellie Sheehy (Limerick) make up the full squad.

Floorball is being evaluated for inclusion on the list of Paralympic sports. It separates itself from wheelchair hurling in that participants compete on a pitch with sticks similar to those used in ice hockey.

The GAA squad will compete against Floorball teams from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland.
