The Government has published its guidelines for the return of fans to sporting events.
Those will form the basis of 16 small trial matches and tournaments, in a wide range of sports.
They include reduced capacity, physical distancing, mask-wearing, hand hygiene and a strict contact tracing system.
Minister for State for Sport, Jack Chambers, says these pilot events will inform organisers on how to expand over the coming months.
"This gives us the capacity to build confidence in the safe return of spectators in June and then to have increased numbers in July and August so we can see a much bigger increase in the return of fans.
"I think it's a really positive day for fans and spectators who want to get back watching their county, their League of Ireland team, or their rugby match - it forms the principle and the basis to do that," Minister Chambers said.
