Would you rent a room to a student?

There's a nationwide accommodation crisis and Waterford is no exception in this regard. This crisis is particularly pressing as students head off to college. I spoke to Derek Delaney, WIT Novus Accommodation manager. He's putting a call out to Waterford residents to rent spare rooms to students.

He explained to me how people interested in renting to students can find more information.

Spotlight on Arclabs, Episode 2, SportX

Over the month of September, I'll talk to various people who are based at, or connected to, Arclabs.

So, in this episode I heard about SportX. Resolve Partners has teamed up with Arclabs and the WIT Arena, UPMC and SportsTech Ireland on this programme.

To find out more, I spoke with David Scanlon, Director at Resolve Partners. David has been involved with digital technology and start-ups throughout his career. I also discussed SportX with John Windle. John is General Manager for UPMC Sports Medicine and UPMC Institute for Health in Ireland. He is also a Board member of Ireland Active and Student Sport Ireland.

Donna Drohan was also in studio.  WIT Arena Facilities & Events Manager. Donna has been employed at WIT Novus since 2008. She was responsible for the project management of WIT Arena from greenfield site to present day. And, Donna has also been involved in all stages of strategic management of the WIT Arena site.

Enterprise Ireland start up fund

Enterprise Ireland has announced €2 million in its latest High Potential Start-up fund. Up to 50k in investment is available to 40 new businesses who meet the criteria. I discussed this with Terri Smith of Enterprise Ireland.

Toys4Engineers makes its return in late September

Toys4Engineers is back from September 27th. The event is organised by Waterford Chamber in association with WIT. It showcases the talent and innovation that exists within the engineering, tech and pharma industry on a national level. So to discuss Friday's line up, I was joined by James Mernin, Director of Cloud Services Engineering with Red Hat.
