A Waterford secondary school teacher has raised concerns over the encouraged use of AI in the 2026 English course.

Katie Chance, a secondary school teacher in Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School spoke with Ollie and Dymphna.

She discussed the widespread access for students to Artificial Intelligence on their phones and online.

Additionally, she discussed the difficulties teachers face in identifying an AI generated assignment.

Furthermore, she detailed the new 2026 English syllabus for Leaving Certificate students.

As part of this rollout, the Department of Education encourages the use of AI for a project worth 40%.
