From 1714 onwards, Ballybricken was host to the barbarity of bull-baiting.
A peculiar breed of dog was used as part of the activity, a dog identified by disproportionate heads and jaws.
A bull was tied to the bull-post in Ballybricken, attracting a large crowd.
Following this, dogs were used to terrorise the bull, raising his blood pressure and thus, it was believed, tenderising the meat.
Local historian Cian Manning, discusses the history behind the bull-post in Waterford for his first installment of 'I Love Me County.'
