A Lismore 'giant' man, measuring 6'6ft and weight 200lbs, known as 'The Irish Giant' died following an incident which saw him shot once in the abdomen.

Ned O'Baldwin, was born in 1840, and was a bareknuckle boxer of world-renown.

Following his move to London, and some hotly anticipated fights, the Lismore 'giant' trained under Tommy Cooper.

His story became the stuff of infamy and notoriety, without the obvious proceeds of fame.

His story, and his life, concluded with his death in his 30s having been shot in the abdomen.

Ned is not believed to have any relatives still living in the Lismore area, according to historian Cian Manning.
