Waterford missed out on beating the All-Ireland Champions Limerick yesterday, trailing by 2 points a the full-time whistle.

It was a performance that few saw coming, but Davy Fitzgerald's side pushed the defending Champions to the pin of their collars in Thurles.

Stephen Bennett shot 12 points, with co-captain Jamie Barron adding three from play.

The Déise lost Tadgh De Búrca after 20 minutes, with the manager saying he is likely gone for the rest of the season.

Limerick also lost a man, with Gearoid Hegarty seeing red in the second half for a high challenge on Conor Gleeson.
