2007 Hurler of the Year Dan Shanahan believes that both of this weekend’s county semi finals are 50-50 games.

Old rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion do battle at 4.30 on Saturday in Walsh Park. “I give Mount Sion a great chance,” Shanahan told WLR’s Lár Na Páirce show. “It comes down to one man: Austin Gleeson. If Austin plays well, like he did the last day, Mount Sion have a better chance of winning.”

Gleeson shot 2-4 against Passage last weekend from full forward. Will he start there again on Saturday? “That’s the question. Do you put Austin Gleeson on Barry Coughlan? It’s a question that John Meaney and his management team will have to figure out. Do they just go for the jugular and throw him in there and see how gets on against Barry? On the other side of it, do Ballygunner put Barry on Austin Gleeson if he is in any of the six forward positions? It’s going to be intriguing.”
