Waterford Fianna Fáil TD Mary Butler has blasted what she called "mob rule" in the Dáil yesterday.

Mary Butler was reacting to events which saw the Dáil being suspended, and the failure to elected a Taoiseach.

"We had democracy suppressed -  a situation where there was no respect for a Ceann Comhairle," she told Damien Tiernan on 'Deise Today' this morning (Thursday)

"I believe it was a national embarrassment which made news all over the world. It was a new low."

She added: "You wouldn't see it in any workplace in the world. It was akin, at the end, to mob role and was totally unjustified."

Mary Butler also spoke in strong terms about the "bullying" of Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy during proceedings, saying she felt that there occurred "bullying at its highest level in the latter stages".
