He's been ringing the bells at Waterford Christ Church Cathedral for nearly 70 years - and as he celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday, it was no different.

Richard de Courcy, like any other Sunday, yesterday braved the 49 steps leading to the belfry of the stunning city landmark.

There he rang the bells and after the service, headed with friends and relatives to a local hotel for his birthday celebration.

With Richard yesterday as he marked this fantastic occasion was 'Deise Today's Damien Tiernan.
