His 'pig in a poke' comments relating to Waterford Airport in the Dail last week prompted an angry backlash.

But Minister of State James Lawless today (Friday) apologised for any offence caused locally by his comments, during an interview with Damien on 'Deise Today'.

The Kildare North TD, who is Minister of State at the Dept of Transport, met with the board of Waterford Airport yesterday afternoon (Thursday) where it's understood he also apologised for the comments, in a meeting the Minister himself described on WLR this morning as "very constructive".

He told 'Deise Today' he now wants to work closely with the stakeholders of Waterford Airport "to give (the business case) the best possible chance" of making it to Cabinet shortly.

The Wexford native also said that as a South East native, he does want "this project to succeed".

You can listen back to Damien Tiernan's extensive and interesting interview with Minister Lawless - where they also discussed the options for developing Waterford Airport and runway AND a letter from Ryanair saying they would potentially be interested in offering flights from Waterford Airport - by clicking on the image above...
