Emma Ryan is a 32-year-old mother from Waterford city.
This time last year, she suffered a life-threatening stroke which has seen her have treatment since in Cork University Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin and also the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire.
For Emma, her stroke at such a young age has been a difficult journey and while her recovery has been strong, she's been left with many debilitating symptoms like chronic fatigue, mixed physical health and so on.
She says surviving has been the highest point on her journey so far.
This week - on the one-year anniversary of her stroke - Emma spoke on 'Deise Today' to Damien to raise awareness of stroke in younger people.
