The funeral of Waterford rally driver Craig Breen takes place later this afternoon with massive crowds expected in Ferrybank for it.

Up to 1,000 people alone are involved in marshalling for the funeral, many of them from the rallying community countrywide; friends and colleagues of the late 33-year-old.

To facilitate the large crowds expected to attend, Kilkenny County Council, in cooperation with Southlink and An Garda Síochána, will close the R711 Regional Road between Slieverue and Ferrybank to through-traffic from 12:15pm to 3:00pm.

All Waterford-bound traffic from the N24, the M9 and the N25 will be diverted to access Waterford City via the R448 Sallypark.

James Coleman, chair of Carrick On Suir Motor Club and friend of Craig's, spoke to Damien Tiernan this morning (Tues) about some of the logistics and plans for Craig's Requiem Mass at 1pm.

He also explained how for the first time, the multi-storey care park at the Ferrybank Shopping Centre will be in use for parking.
