A GoFundMe for  Jamie Phelan reached its €200,000 target on Wednesday evening, eight days after it was started. The monies raised will pay for specialist treatment in Germany, which it's hoped will prolong the mother of four's life.

The 32 year old is fighting a rare and extremely aggressive brain tumour which brings with it a life expectancy of 12 to 18 months.

Jamie was only weeks after giving birth to her fourth child last February when she was diagnosed.

Setting up a GoFundMe for Jamie

Jamie's friends - who want to help her at every opportunity to prolong her time with her husband and children - set up the GoFundMe earlier this month. The target of €200,000 was set so Jamie could access the additional treatments, specifically a new immunotherapy treatment called DCVax.

Jamie is married to Danny Windor and together they have four children - Liam (7), Tadhg (5), Tara (2) and baby Fiadh, who is just eight months old now.

Huge public support helped reached the target

The GoFundMe for Jamie Phelan was a huge success with an outpouring of support from people in Waterford and beyond. Jamie's friends were overjoyed on Wednesday to learn that the figure had been reached.

One of the girls, Ciara Fanning, spoke to Damien on Deise Today to express gratitude to those who donated, on behalf of Jamie, her family and friends. You can listen to that interview in the feature image link.
