On Tuesday's Deise Today - Damien was joined in studio by Elaine Moore and Aoife Lynch.

Aoife runs Kids At Play based in Carn Glas Court, Waterford and has been working with children with additional needs for the past eight years.

Aoife provides a play and social skills group for children with additional needs. Her aim has always been to promote happy play among peers while adopting a child-led approach. The group encourages children to enjoy play with their peers while enhancing play and social skills.

Elaine has a little boy named Max who will be turning six soon. Max developed normally, but at one and a half - his language stopped developing. The public health nurse referred Max onto a speech and language therapist for an assessment. Max was sent on to early intervention services a number of years ago back in May 2019. Nothing has happened since.

Both women heard the story of Christine Hennessy and her daughter Isabelle on Deise Today last week - and sought to share their stories on the alarming lack of services available to parents of children with additional needs.

"It's as if we are now supposed to teach our children speech and language therapy."
