That's according to Sinn Fein Councillor Joeanne Bailey who called on the local authority to raise awareness about their potential dangers, in conversation with Maria McCann on Déise Today.

Under current legislation, e-scooters are illegal in Ireland because legislation has to be agreed in terms of what personal equipment needs to be worn, what the speed limit on them can be, as well as where and when they can be ridden.

Cllr Bailey said residents on Canon Street in Waterford city who have a footpath outside their homes say e-scooters have sped past them as they're opening their door.

When asked what she's asking for, Cllr Bailey said "I'd like people to slow down. I'd like Waterford Council to introduce a campaign, to tie in with National Slow Down Day in May, and be one of the Councils that's going that step further for safety in our city and county."
