Eugene O'Neill was considered the Shakespeare of American theatre, and produced such works as "A Moon for the Misbegotten," and "A long Day's Journey into Night."

Eugene's father James O'Neill emigrated from the Port of New Ross with his family when he was a small child. James went on to become a famous actor in America, and this theatrical influence paved the way for Eugene.

Richard Hayes of the School of Humanities at WIT is on the committee of the Eugene O'Neill festival, which runs in New Ross from October 10th to 14.

He has the details for Mary "On the Fringe.."
