Senieva is a founding member and Chairperson of Waterford Musical Society. This year they're delighted to be bringing the much loved Rogers and Hammerstein classic South Pacific to Theatre Royal from April 30th to May 4th, directed by Bill Stafford with an all-local cast and crew. You'll find out more here
What's South Pacific all about?
The show is set on an island during World War II, where two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war.
Nellie, a US Navy nurse, falls in love with a mature, French plantation owner Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, she struggles to accept his mixed-race children and refuses Emile's proposal of marriage.
Meanwhile, out of the same fears that haunt Nellie, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself love with an innocent native girl, Liat.
When Emile is recruited to join Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe's life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness and in doing so confronts and conquers her prejudices.
