WLR Shortlisted for FIVE IMRO Radio Awards

WLR is in contention for a whopping FIVE national radio awards at the upcoming IMRO radio awards in Kilkenny on October 6.

The awards ceremony at the Lyrath Hotel will be attended by all radio stations across the 32 counties, including WLR, RTE, BBC, TODAY FM and NEWSTALK.

Hopes are high it will be a very successful night for WLR with an impressive FIVE nominations.

Forty-one awards in total will be handed out on the night, with each category announcing a gold, silver, and bronze winner, as well as awards for Local, Music, and National station of the Year.

WLR has been nominated for the following:

  1. Déise Today with Damien Tiernan - Current Affairs Programme - Local / Regional
  2. Drug Debt and Intimidation -Dymphna Nugent: News Story / News Event
  3. WLR NEWS @ ONE TRICOLOUR SPECIAL – WLR NEWS TEAM News Programme - Local / Regional
  4. Abair Amach É Mollai Gough- Alzheimer's Special - Craoltóireacht le Gaeilge
  5. Damien Tiernan -Speech Broadcaster of the Year - Local / Regional

There is no shortlist in Local Station of the Year category but WLR has entered and the winner will be announced on the night.

Director of programming with WLR Michael Byrne said,"Congratulations to our incredible team for achieving this well-deserved recognition and making it to the shortlist for the 2023 IMRO radio awards! These nominations are a testament to the outstanding content produced this year in Waterford."
