Status orange wind and rain warning issued for Waterford

A Status Orange warning for rain and wind has been issued for Waterford, Cork and Kilkenny as Storm Betty is set to hit the south of the country this evening.

Widespread heavy rain and thundery downpours will sweep across the country today, with spot flooding and travel disruption possible, with three separate Status Yellow alerts also issued.

A Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Galway and Munster will be in effect from 2pm this afternoon until 3am tomorrow.

Met Éireann is forecasting heavy and persistent rain, which will move in across the south and southwest this afternoon.

Heavy and thundery downpours will then extend nationwide during the evening.

A pitch inspection has also been called for Waterford FC's clash with Cork City in the FAI Cup Second Round this evening.
