Waterford's Fourth Annual Global Women's Conference takes place this morning

Today marks international women's day with a number of events taking place locally.

From 10.30 this morning there's a free event in the Theatre Royal.

'Waterford's Fourth Annual Global Women's Conference' will feature a wide range of speakers from different walks of life.

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ali Comerford will open the event with poetry from Natalia Ruda and Singer-Songwriter Yinashe will close the morning with her original songs.

Also speaking are Obianuju Ekedozie, Chair of Waterford Migrant Integration Forum, Jen Harris, CEO of Slí The Waterford Sustainable Living Initiative, and Dr. Méabh Savage, South East Technological University (SETU).

Anne Nolan from Waterford Integration services says the event is building year after year.

She added: "We have a fantastic lineup of speakers who come from all walks of life.

"Our first keynote speaker is Dr. Ebun Joseph and she is the director and founder of the Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies.

"We also have a speech from Ojeaku Nwabuzo, the Director and Policy Advisor of the European Network against Racism based in Brussels."

The International Women's Day 2023 campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity.

WLR'S Dymphna Nugent will also host a panel and discuss local projects.
