Women’s Sheds in Waterford can avail of new supports.

Minister for Mental Health & Older People, Mary Butler says €100,000 will be set aside in the Social Protection Departments budget.

Local women's sheds groups can avail of grants of up to €2,000 as part of the initiative to recognise the fact that there is a growing number of Women’s Sheds across the country.

The Déise Women's Shed in Dungarvan is among them.

The grants can be used to assist Women’s Sheds to expand within their communities, run activities, or to help them with their running costs such as insurance or rental costs.

Minister Butler says Women’s Sheds provide an invaluable service for women of all ages, helping to tackle social isolation while providing a space for people to come together, socialise, build friendships, and to support positive mental health.

“The Women’s Shed movement is a relatively new phenomenon in comparison to Men’s Sheds. However, I have seen Waterford’s Women’s Sheds grow and thrive and I will continue to liaise with Minister Humphreys on their behalf to further enhance our network," Minister Butler said.

Any Women’s Shed in Waterford interested in availing of funding can get in touch with the Department of Rural and Community Development via [email protected].
