The CEO of a Waterford taxi company says clarity is needed on whether its passengers should wear masks.
As of yesterday, it is mandatory to wear face coverings on public transport.
However, Rapid Cabs CEO Eric O'Brien says it's unclear whether it applies to taxis.
"We're waiting on government guidance on this, they have come out and said that people have to wear masks on public transport, they haven't made it clear yet if taxis fall under that. It seems to be buses, trains and the Luas at the moment. We would like to know either way."
He says the company is in favour of passengers wearing masks.
"We'd love to see more people wearing masks on public transport. If you're only in a taxi for 20 minutes, [the mask] is only on your for 20 minutes, we're not asking you to wear it all day."
Eric O'Brien says most of the company's drivers wear masks.
"A lot of our drivers wear masks, we have some drivers that don't wear masks because they can't wear masks, they have underlying conditions that don't allow them to wear masks, masks are not for everybody."
