Takeaways across Waterford city and county have reported brisk trade post Christmas as people seek alternatives to turkey and ham.
Traditionally, the period between Christmas and the New Year has proved busy for many fast food outlets as fatigue with festive food sets in.
Martin Tofeg of Zambak in Kilmeaden says they’ve been busy since re-opening on St Stephen’s Day.
”People want to try something different after Christmas Day,” he told WLR.
“We close just one day during the year, Christmas Day, and after that it starts getting busy again. We are the only chipper in Kilmeaden so we are always busy.”
Martin explained that the most popular items currently are pizzas and kebabs but also traditional fish and chips.
In particular, he believes many who have had the responsibility of cooking for families during Christmas appreciate having food prepared for them instead.
