34 clubs in Waterford are to share €1.03 million in funding under the Sports Capital Programme.
The Government's announced a new round of funding to the tune of €37 million.
Among the highlights for Waterford include almost €57,000 for Waterford City Rugby Club for the development of an all weather pitch, over €52,000 euro for Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club for course upgrade machinery and materials, and almost €46,000 for Stradbally GAA Club for a new pitch.
Waterford Minister John Halligan says it's crucial that sports clubs are supported:
"These organisations provide an invaluable outlet to Waterford people when it comes to encouraging a fit and healthier lifestyle. They also being together a spirit of camaraderie within the community, and of course they teach us vital life skills and lessons, including the value of team work and perseverance in sport. That's how valuable it is and I think that the Government recognises that; that substantial money must be invested in sports and communities and they do just that."
