Waterford rises to the Bus Éireann Christmas challenge to “Fill a Bus” for Waterford Food Bank

Bus Eireann has thanked the people of Waterford for their contributions for the vulnerable, elderly and those living in food poverty this Christmas.

More than a thousand non-perishable goods and household items were donated on Thursday.

They successfully filled a bus for Waterford Food Bank.

"We are absolutely thrilled by the response we got from the people of Waterford and their generosity", said Bus Éireann Sales Executive Fiona Connolly,

"They were out in force from 10 am in the morning bringing donations all day and managed to fill the bus from top to bottom!".

Covid-19 has made it immensely challenging for Waterford Food Bank with demand for their services more than doubling since the beginning of the crisis.

They distribute between 175-200 food parcels every week to families and individuals in Waterford and have successfully delivered over 5,460 food parcels this year.

"On behalf of the board & staff of Waterford Area Partnership CLG, we are extremely grateful to all at Bus Éireann for initiating this innovative appeal on behalf of Waterford Foodbank", said Richard Grant, CEO of Waterford Area Partnership CLG.

"The success of this initiative will enable Waterford Foodbank to extend its capacity in providing food parcels to those in most need in the coming weeks, a sincere thank you to all at Bus Éireann".
