Waterford primary class sizes in line with national average

Average class sizes in primary schools have reached their lowest level in two decades, according to new findings.

However, nearly one in ten pupils are still in oversized classes of 30 or more.

The analysis by the Irish Independent has revealed a wide variation in the numbers being taught in primary classes around the country.

In Waterford, there's an average class size of 22.4 in line with the overall figure of 22.5.

Around 20 per cent of Waterford pupils are in classes of less than 20 and 9.2 per cent are in classes of more than 30.

Nationally, the largest average class size was among schools in Kildare while the lowest was in Longford.
