A Waterford City Postman is asking householders to clean and disinfect their letterbox.
Social distancing measures are in place across An Post's mails and parcels sorting centres, and post offices.
Anthony 'Penny' Horan says they are taking strict steps to ensure hand hygiene and he is asking householders to do the same.
"I am making an appeal, would people try to clean their letterboxes every day? It would make a huge difference to us."
An Post has introduced staggered starting times for postal delivery staff which they say will result in later mail and parcel deliveries for some customers.
Penny says they are really busy with online deliveries.
"There's a lot of people at home, people are ordering online, people are stuck in, they have time to be going online.
"We were very busy with online anyway but, you could see a bit of an increase last week and I noticed it today - it will probably just increase further."
