Waterford pays out almost €1 million in footpath 'slips and trips'

Waterford Council paid out almost a million euro in compensation for 'slips and trips' last year.

42 claims made by members of the public saw  €975,870 paid out in compensation.

Nationally, the total cost of compensation against local authorities was €54 million.

Figures provided to The Irish Independent outlined the cost for each county for what is mainly 'slips, trips, and falls.'

Kilkenny County Council finalised claims totaling €3.3 million for 44 liability claims.

Within that figures, it finalised claims valued €1.1 million from 14 claims.

The highest figure nationally was Dublin City, with claims amounting to €19, 49, 572.

Three local authorities, Carlow, Kerry and Laois did not provided data on public liability claims.
