The Mayor of Waterford has described a local house party that was attended by 60 teenagers as totally unacceptable.
Gardaí were called to the three-bed semi-detached house in a suburban housing estate at 8.35 pm on Saturday and video footage has been shared widely on social media showing more than 60 young people being escorted from the house through the front door.
Fine Gael's Damien Geoghegan says it was grossly irresponsible of the young people.
"It was shocking really, to be quite frank about it, and grossly irresponsible by the people involved.
"It is understandable, young people will want to meet up with their friends but, to have that many people at a party under the current circumstances is unacceptable really."
He says the virus hasn't gone away "the restrictions are being lifted somewhat but, we have got to be mindful that the virus still exists in our community".
"We've been doing quite well in Waterford to date," he added. "we've been doing an exceptional job at UHW and I think people need to bear that in mind."
"Young and old, we need to stick together to beat it."
