Waterford man in Wuhan in contact with Department of Foreign Affairs

The Department of Foreign Affairs is in contact with six Irish people living at the epicentre of the coronavirus in China.

One of them is Waterford man Conor Butler who is a teacher in Wuhan.

The city of Wuhan remains in lockdown as fears grow about the spread of the virus which has killed over 100 people.

Conor is in isolation in his own house - with a stock of food and drink - and says he's in contact with authorities in Ireland:

"Everyone is just sitting tight waiting for further instruction really.

"I'm also on to the Irish Embassy here as well, I think they're trying to get me home.

I'm waiting for a bit of information from them but I'm just sitting tight at the moment."
