A Waterford man is giving away 1,000 trees this week in a bid to help tackle climate change.

Tree surgeon Dean O'Neill, known as The Green Man, has a selection of trees to give away as part of Science Week, which is running until November 17th.

The Tree Council Of Ireland is aiming to plant 30,000 trees during Science Week.

They include native trees such as oak, birch, willow and alder.

The Kilmacthomas man told WLR News why he wants people to plant more trees:

"I think everybody can do their part to tackle climate change; planting a tree is just a small part of it but it's a big part on a wider scale. If the Government can hit their targets of 22 million trees per year, that's going to make a massive impact on our perception to the rest of Europe. But this is something that everybody can do; children, young and old - planting a tree is so easy to do."

Dean will be in the Old Mill Carpark in Kilmacthomas on Friday, November 15th from 10am to 12pm.

He'll be in Tramore on Saturday, November 16th at Priest Road Market from 10am to 1pm.

Dean's appealing to people who plant a tree to post a picture or video on the Tree Planters Ireland Facebook page to keep a record of trees being planted.
