A Waterford man is cycling across 28 countries and 3 continents to raise funds for sick children.

Paddy Flynn from Rathgormack, along with Daithí Harrison from Carrick-On-Suir, kicked off their journey in Australia.

As well as cycling, both men are running an ultra-marathon in each of the 28 countries along the way.

They decided to take on the challenge to raise money for CMRF Crumlin and the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation.

Paddy told WLR News they're currently in South East Asia:

"We're starting to get through them now. Australia was the biggest country to get across, that took us 7 weeks to cycle across. But now, every week or two weeks we'll be in a different country. We usually cycle an average of 200km a day and then in each country as well we've set the challenge to run an ultra-marathon. That's been tough because we haven't had as much downtime on the bikes as we thought we'd have, so getting the runs in has been very hard. It's so humid here in South East Asia so far. It's getting a bit colder now so we can't wait for winter."

He explains why they chose the two charities:

"I lived in Australia for nine years and Daithí was there for two years all up over the last ten, and we wanted to give back to Australia and also give to the future generations in Ireland. Children's charities seemed like the way to do it. Our website is 2cycle28.com and there's a link there they can click if they'd like to donate. All money raised is split between the two charities."
