Former Waterford City and County Mayor Joe Conway has been elected to Seanad Éireann.
He will serve as a Senator on the Cultural and Educational Panel.
Joe Conway served as the Mayor of Waterford City and County in 2023/2024 and was re-elected to Waterford City and County Council in June of 2024.
He represents the local electoral area of Tramore & Waterford City West and is a native of Ardagh, County Longford.
He is a Gaeilgeoir and lifelong educator and former member of Údarás na Gaeltachta, who also nominated him to contest the election.
Before entering politics he was a school principal at Killea Boys National School in Dunmore East.
Senator Conway has thanked everyone involved in his campaign.
Meanwhile, former Independent TD Matt Shanahan meanwhile is vying for a seat on the Industrial and Commercial Panel, with counting underway since lunchtime.
