Waterford is included in a nationwide wind warning which is currently in place.
Met Éireann has warned of possible power outages and travel disruption as strong winds are forecast today.
A Status Yellow Wind warning for the country came into effect at 5am this morning and will remain in place until 2am on Friday.
ESB crews will monitor the situation and deal with any outages at local level.
Unsettled weather is expected to continue before a cold blast engulfs the country at the weekend.
Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather says winds will pick up throughout the day across the country, with the west and northwest set to be hit hardest.
"The strongest gusts will be on the coast in the North West and also on high ground," he said.
"Unfortunately, the length of these strong winds is quite unusual."
