Inspector Gavin Hegarty says they're looking for people who have made a positive contribution to their community

"There is an individual award and a group award for those people who have made a positive contribution to their community, making it a better place to live.

"There is also a community safety award, recognition of a group or individual who has through crime prevention or a safety initiative has made their community a safer place to live.

"Finally, we are looking for those young people who have overcome difficult circumstances, who have defied the odds or overcome challenges and gone on to achieve something."

Inspector Hegarty says if people contact any garda station in Waterford they should be able to get the form.

"They can contact me at Waterford Garda Station or they can email [email protected] and we can post them out an application form."

Inspector Gavin Hegarty hopes that members of the public will nominate deserving young people

"We're asking for the community's help in identifying those young people. Where are they, who are they and what have they done?

"We really, especially this year, want to recognise the young people who have made a contribution to the society in which they live."
