When is it on?
The Waterford Harvest Festival runs from September 6th to 12th. Organisers say that during this time you can expect the City to be transformed into a food-lover’s paradise. The festival will see a week of bespoke menus, dining-out experiences, seasonal dishes, local producer collaborations and lots more. It's all to celebrate the best of the South East in terms of food and drink.
Some highlights
Some events are free, others are charged. Below is just a flavour (pun intended) of what's on, but all can be viewed through the Waterford Harvest Festival website.
Included in the line up is Everett's Appreciation of Harvest: A Meal to Celebrate. This experience will feature three courses showcasing the produce from land and seas with specially selected wines and champagne to pair with each dish.
Momo will host The Garden Harvest event. This is where diners can enjoy a five course tasting menu celebrating Waterford produce, including vegetables from Ballybeg Greens and Annestown. Bernadette Kervick from Ballybeg Gardens will share tips on growing vegetables organically.
Guinness & Oysters at the Viking Longboat in The Reg will give people the opportunity to watch chefs shucking oysters which can then be washed down with a glass of Guinness.
Meanwhile, The Old Couch Café in Waterford’s Cultural Quarter will be serve up a three course lunch menu that spotlights Waterford’s diverse and passionate food producers. This event will also have a strong European influence.
The Stable Yard Food Hall in Waterford City will feature produce from a range of local eateries. These include Carters Chocolate café, The Ice Cream Place, The Italian Bakery & Pizza Kitchen and No.9 Barronstrand St. Restaurant and Mediterranean Deli.
If you fancy a musical breakfast in nice surroundings, then you'll probably love The Jazz Band Brunch on the Greenway hosted by Coach House Coffee. To celebrate the end to 'Prohibition', the eatery will host female jazz duo “Indigo Mood” on Saturday the 11th of September.
A Slice of Culture
This is a free festival that is launching this month as part of Harvest. The event, set at Wyse Park and The Rogue Gallery & Studios, will celebrate Hungarian culture in terms of dance, song, stories and aromas. It will be run in association with the Waterford Hungarian Cultural Organisation.
A time to embrace and support the hospitality sector
We got news yesterday of a further lifting of restrictions, as the country slowly comes out of the Pandemic. You can read all about that here. It's been a tough time for the food, drinks and entertainment sector. So members of the public in Waterford and beyond are asked to try support this industry wherever possible. Get out and enjoy Harvest if you can!
