Waterford Councillors will attempt to push through a budget this afternoon ahead of tonight's deadline.
The sticking point is a €1.3m deficit following on from the revaluation of Irish Water rates.
Councillors deferred the meeting from November 29th to ask for further Government funding however, their requests were denied.
CEO Michael Walsh initially proposed a 5% hike in commercial rates and says council charges in Waterford are among the lowest in the country.
Fianna Fáil councillor Eddie Mulligan says he doesn't know what kind of budget will be presented this afternoon:
"I wasn't too happy with the fact that the budget was deferred to the last day administratively possible. So, we're going to see the CEO's budget presented again and then we're waiting to see those that actually control the council, that have the maximum votes, will they be proposing any alternative amendments to the actual budget or will they propose the budget as is. And really for us, being in the minority with votes, it's to see what's proposed, whether we support or whether we actually look at it and come back with counter proposals."
