Waterford Council among local authorities to issue most parking fines

There's been an increase in the amount of parking fines issued by Waterford City and County Council.

The Council is among the local authorities to issue the highest number of tickets per 100,000 of the population.

Following, a Freedom of Information request, the Irish Independent reported a major increase in parking fines issued in 2023 compared to the previous year nationwide.

In Waterford, 16,155 were issued in 2022, compared to 17,783 in 2023.

The value of fines ranges from €40 to €150 in Ireland's 31 local authorities.

This amounts to almost €14m in revenue to the exchequer.

When it comes to fines issued per 100,000 of population, Waterford stands at 13,962.

Galway City Council, Cork City Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Waterford City and County Council, Kerry County Council and Westmeath County Council issued the highest number of tickets per 100,000 of the population.
