Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Waterford TD Mary Butler, is encouraging people to support World Alzheimer’s Day.
September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and the theme of this year’s campaign is, “Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer’s”.
Every day in Ireland there are 30 new cases of dementia, with 64,000 people living with the condition.
The annual global awareness-raising campaign focuses on attitudes toward dementia and seeks to challenge the stigma and discrimination which still exist around the condition.
Two walks are being held in Waterford on Sunday, and both start at 11am.
The Waterford City walk begins at Carriganore, meeting at SETU Arena. The Dungarvan walk commences at Causeway Tennis Club.
Minister Butler is encouraging people to register online or come along and support on the day and make a donation.
She also outlined the efforts which are continuing to make Dungarvan a dementia inclusive community.
"Work has been underway over the last twelve months and there lots of business on board , including the Chamber."
