A number of business owners in Waterford have called for a designated manager to oversee the development of Waterford City.

Many government funded projects in the city are currently on hold, such as the North Quays and Michael St. developments.

Councillor Joe Kelly has called for a City Centre Manager for Waterford for a number of months, and now businesses are too.

He's told WLR News that if Waterford City wants to be ambitious, it needs a key person at the helm.

"If we're serious about Waterford meeting it's potential and really driving on, I think that position is vital," he said.

At the moment, the council's Director of Service deals with issues in both the city and the county, but Councillor Kelly believes this is too much.

Existing businesses need to be given confidence that Waterford will be the best place to trade in.

The current businesses are already struggling with the rising cost of living, but Councillor Kelly believes they should be able to remain confident that there business stays open.

He also says that if someone wanted to set up a new business, the infrastructure should be in the city to do so.
