Waterford among NCT Centres with longest actual wait time

Some NCT Centres are falsely claiming waiting times of just two weeks on their website - only for motorists to discover they have to wait much longer for a test.

An analysis by the Irish Mail on Sunday found that drivers trying to book a test are being forced to wait more than five months at Waterford NCT Centre, and six months at Youghal.

According to the NCT website, the average national waiting time for a test is just fourteen days.

However, the analysis of each of the country's 49 NCT Centres shows some test centres have queues up to ten times longer than the website suggests - with the average actual wait time for an NCT test found to be almost forty days.

This figure was found to be far higher in both Youghal and Waterford which top the table for the longest actual wait time.

Youghal NCT Centre had a website wait time of 22 days but an actual wait of 175 days. Meanwhile, Waterford's test centre had a website wait time of 26 days but 167 days in reality.

The findings have led to calls for the Spanish operator of the NCT tests, Applus, to leave the contract - with claims that it is in breach of its service level agreement.
