A Waterford supermarket will no longer fill customers' keep cups due to the threat of coronavirus.
Ardkeen Quality Food Store says it decided to take the precautionary measure to reduce the risk of infection to staff and customers.
Colin Jephson, Director of Ardkeen Quality Food Store, says they'll revert to compostable single-use cups for now for teas and coffees and other hot drinks:
He told WLR News, "We do like keep cups, re-usable containers of all sorts is probably the future and we have to work towards doing more of it, but just
at the moment because of coronavirus we have to take this temporary step to hopefully protect staff, protect customers and stop the spread. Will it be
successful, who knows how effective these measures will be but we have to do our best anyway".
He's urging customers to clean their hands before they enter the shop:
"We have sanitisers around the place, we want customers to use them when they come into the store and leave the store and we are telling our staff that they
have to make sure their hands are washed frequently and use the sanitisers regularly and frequently."
